Map of Malaysia with Borneo

The northern part of the island of Borneo belongs to Malaysia, except for the Sultanate of Brunei. The Malaysian side of Borneo consists of Sarawak and Sabah states. The southern part of the island belongs to Indonesia.

In Borneo you can experience jungle nature and get acquainted with the life of primitive tribes. Borneo is a paradise for nature lovers and photographers, the jungles are full of all sorts of animals and the abundance of different kinds of plants is amazing and so is the multitude and beauty of flowers.

In Sepilok near Sandakan is the world's oldest and most extensive orang-utan refuge area. It also functions adaptation and rehabilitation centre for baby orang-utans that have become orphans.

On the island of Selingan in the nature park of Pulau Penyun it is possible to watch giant sea turtles. The distance from Sandakan to the island is about 40 km. The staff of the island gathers turtle eggs and moves them out of reach of local fishermen. On Selingan you can see the turtles laying eggs and follow the protection work. Very interesting for those environmentally oriented!
