Map of USA with New York

New York. The Big Apple. The city that never sleeps. A dear child has many names. In New York there are lots and lots of things to see and do and the city certainly leaves nobody cold. You either love it or hate it!

In Manhattan alone there are things to explore for at least a week. And do not forget Brooklyn, Bronx or Staten Island.

The best times to visit New York are, in our opinion, early in the spring and late in the autumn. The summers are sometimes very hot and the winters meat locker-cold.

One of the "must" things to do in New York is to visit the Empire State Building. If the weather is clear the panorama from the viewing platform is well worth the entrance fee and standing in a line for the elevators.

New York is famous for its music, theatres and musicals. Most of the big theatres are around Times Square. On Times Square there is a half-price ticket booth, where you can buy half-price tickets to performances on same day. The queue is sometimes hundreds of metres long! If you don’t want to wait for hours, it is advisable to join the queue in the afternoon, as it is much shorter then. On the other hand, tickets for the most popular shows might already be sold out…

A small warning: NYC taxi drivers are mostly immigrants and usually speak very little English. If you take a taxi from the airport to Manhattan for example, you should have the name and address of your hotel printed on paper. A map with the location of the hotel clearly marked on doesn’t hurt either.
