Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Map of Malaysia with KL

The capital city of Malaysia is Kuala Lumpur with its 18 million inhabitants. It is an exciting mixture of different religions and cultures, modern sky-scrapers and romantic old districts.

One of the most spectacular sights is the 452 meters high Petronas twin towers. Many symbolic features are included in its Islamic architecture.

The Merdekan square is the centre of the colonial Kuala Lumpur. This is where the meeting point of the KL elite, the Royal Selangor Club and the Sultan Abdul Samad building which is an outstanding example of the Victorian-Moslem architecture are located.

The two-storey art-deco style Central Market in China Town is a shopping paradise for antiques, art and all sorts of handicraft. It is interesting to sit in a cafe on the second floor and watch the business going on below.

The best ways to move around in Kuala Lumpur are its comfortable and cheap monorail or on foot. The taxis are cheap too, and there are plenty of then, but the streets are hopelessly jammed from early morning till late at night.
